Major disruptions on regional trains

Be sure to plan ahead and allow more time for travel during major works this autumn, especially if you’re travelling over the school holiday period.  

To avoid delays: 

  • plan your journey before you travel using our Journey planner
  • allow extra travel time 
  • consider alternatives if you can and travel outside of peak times where possible. 

There are also smaller disruptions for essential works happening across the network.

June

Gippsland line

  • Coaches replace trains on Gippsland Line between East Pakenham and Bairnsdale. Passengers continue their journey to/from the city via a Pakenham line train from Friday 20 Jun to Sunday 13 August.

Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines

  • Bendigo and Echuca trains will terminate at Sunbury. Passengers can transfer to a Metro bus replacement service from Sunbury to Watergardens, then complete their journey to and from the city on a Sunbury Line Metro train from Monday 23 June to Sunday 29 June.
  • Swan Hill Line trains will terminate at Bendigo. Passengers can travel on a coach replacement between Bendigo and Southern Cross from Monday 23 June to Sunday 29 June.

July

Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines

  • Bendigo and Echuca trains will terminate Sunbury from Friday 25 July to Monday 28 July.
  • On weekdays, passengers transfer to a Metro bus replacement service from Sunbury to Sunshine, then complete their journey to and from the city on a Sunbury Line Metro train.
  • On the weekend, coaches replace trains between Southern Cross and Gisborne on the Bendigo and Echuca lines. Swan Hill Line trains will terminate at Bendigo and passengers can travel on a coach replacement between Bendigo and Southern Cross.

August

Gippsland line

  • Coaches replace trains on Gippsland Line between Southern Cross and East Pakenham from Sunday 10 August and Wednesday 13 August.
  • Coaches replace trains on Gippsland Line between Southern Cross and Traralgon/Bairnsdale from 9pm Friday 23 August to Sunday 24 August.
  • Coaches replace trains on the Gippsland line at nighttime from 9pm Friday 29 August.
  • Coaches replace trains between Southern Cross and East Pakenham from 30 August to the last service on 5 September.

Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines

  • Coaches replace trains on Ballarat Line between Sunshine and Bacchus Marsh from Saturday 20 August and Sunday 31 August.
